Project Details

Sky Train

Weitz is proud to have been repeatedly selected by Bombardier as for all three stages of the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport’s automated train system called PHX Sky Train®.  Weitz was awarded Stage 1 in 2009, Stage 1A in 2012, and Stage 2 in 2018.

Over the course of the three separate projects Weitz successfully installed over 5 miles of guideway.  Weitz’s scope of work included all civil track work, mechanical switches, power distribution systems, uninterruptable power supplies, station system fit outs, and the signaling & communications systems.

Weitz also completed the maintenance and operations facility and yard required to operate and maintain the train fleet.  The facility and yard more than doubled from Stage 1 to Stage 2, ending as a 60K SF and just over 1 mile of track.  The facility and yard scope included admin space, a central control center, 3 light & 2 heavy maintenance bays, civil track work, mechanical switches, propulsion systems, and signaling and communications required to operate the entire PHX Sky Train® system.
